Vintage Thingies Thursday 4/1

Hi everyone! I'm joining in on "Vintage Thingies Thursday" over at "Colorado Lady". Visit her blog and see the other vintage things that people want to share.

The first thing I'm sharing is my father's pocket watch. He carried this to work with him. It is not in working condition but I'm sure if I could find a watch maker in this day and age . . . I could probably have it fixed. I feel blessed to have it.

This magnetic thermometer was my dad's too. I had it on the wall in my old kitchen. It is packed away in some boxes still in the basement. I'm slowly bringing things back up to my renovated kitchen. I'm not sure of the age. At least 60 years.

These next few photos are of part of my brown transfer ware. Most I got from my Aunt's estate. This particular pattern (and a couple other's below) are by T&R Boote, England (Lahor) 1888.

The teapot on the left in back is JG and Sons (Chrysanthemum)
The taller teapot on the right is Johnson Bros. England (Sylvan)

I love brown transfer ware. It always makes a beautiful table.
Have a good Thursday everyone. It going to be in the 70's here and sunny. Yippee!!!!!!!

I nice Pyrex pie plate that I just figured I needed for $1.00

And this little stool. I just love them and this will just join my collection for $5.00

Dining Room plus Rabbit!

Well, I 'm really a little late with my Friday Show and Tell but truly it is still Friday.
You can see the big list in front of me of the people that were on time : ))

Now for this party I'm way early. It's on Tuesday. I'm not very organized!
Her whole blog is soooo crafty with such great ideas.

This is for the crafty part. I didn't make these but someone did and had them in my shop way back then and I have them now. I really love these two rabbit things.

This little girl rabbit is going to sit here in my new window seat.

Dining Room
OK, I wanted to show you this weeks progress on the dining room. This has been one working week from old to gutting to having all the drywall up on ceiling and walls and all the electrical moved. Monday they will start with the taping and mudding. I have to pick out my paint color.

The bottom will be white waincoting and the top will be something spectacular : ))
You have to wait and see!

Tearing out the Dining Room!

That was quick!!
Here was my dining room last Friday.

And here it is today!

Down comes the horrible tiled ceiling.

There's a trap door in the ceiling!

We looked up there but it was very clean. We had a whole roof tear-off and new roof done about 6 years ago.
Notice that the ceiling was once wall papered.

These are old cut square head nails. There were hundreds of them holding up all the lathe.
I think tomorrow is insulation, moving electrical and maybe starting the drywall.
This will go so much faster than my kitchen.
My big decision that I have left is to pick a color for the walls that will be above white wainscoting.
If I'm brave it will be a deep red.
We'll see!!!!

Great Baked Potato Soup!

Baked Potato Soup

I made this soup yesterday and it is beyond wonderful!!!!!!
I did make my bacon smoke and I got to use my vent fan for the first time! Good news is that I didn't set off the smoke alarm which I've been to known to do on occasion.
I got this recipe from my favorite "Chickens In The Road" blog. I'm just passing it on so you can enjoy it too!

All the directions are here:

Awwwwww, Spring

Wonderful Spring
A couple of these photos were taken last year and the one of the red tulips I have to give credit to my daughter for.
The bunny getting ready to paint Easter eggs I just made up this week for on my island.
The white crocus was the winner of the first flower to push through the hardened winter ground. The rest will be soon to follow.
I'm soooo ready!!

Sure signs of Spring!

It's hard to mistake the season if you live on a farm with animals! Babies, babies, babies!
I don't have enough land to have farm animals but if I did!!!!, I would have an absolute ZOO!

So right now I have to be content to read other people's blogs that have farms. My favorite is "Chickens In The Road" Her sheep are having babies, two at a time!

I could have chickens however . . . Hmmmmmm
I'll be thinkin' on that one : ))

Foodie Friday - Beer Bread

I'm a little late getting this on this morning but I wanted to put this recipe on that I just learned about! Stop in Designs By Gollum to see the other good things at:

Beer Bread

Probably everybody or a good number of you have heard of or made beer bread. Me, not being much of a cook, never knew of such a thing. I read about it on one of most favorite blogs "Chickens in the Road" at:
I am living my farm life vicariously through her!!
Anyway here it is.

It has two ingredients!
That means, even I can't mess this one up!! (And I can even remember the recipe my heart!)

3 cups of Bisquick
1 (12oz) bottle of beer
That's it! Any kind of beer, doesn't matter.

Mix together in a bowl till dry ingredient is moistened and pour into a sprayed bread pan. It's all bubbly and magical!
Bake at 350 for 1 hour.

This is what you get : ))
It is a cake type bread, not a yeast type bread.

You can just barely taste a beer flavor. But with jelly on it, you can't taste that at all. You can add anything to this for different flavors like Parmesan or Romano cheeses or different herbs, like basil, oregano, maybe some garlic and onion powders. You can get really creative without messing up this recipe!!

My first try was with butter and jelly.

Really good!
Last night I used it like shortcake and put strawberries, cream and whipped cream on top. Delicious!!!!
Hope you'll try it.

Chicken in the Crock Pot

I'm joining the Crock Pot crew at Dining with Debbie. You can catch all the other recipes here:

I'm not really with it this week, being St. Patrick's Day and all!! But I thought I'd put this really simple and good chicken recipe on.

Here's all the ingredients. (Plus about a lb of skinless, boneless chicken thighs)

The chicken goes in first.

Mix everything else together in a bowl and pour over the chicken.

That's it!!! See . . . EASY!
Cook on low for 5-6 hours.

My little tablescape. I love these dishes.

I had some apricot tea with this meal.

Simple but good.
This was the first meal I made in my new kitchen : ))

And for desert . . . Peach Cobbler.
You can find this recipe here:
Have a Happy St. Paddy's Day everyone.
