Green Eggs and Turkey Bacon

Well, my two Easter Eggers are laying now.  Both started laying yesterday on the same day!
Aren't they beautiful!  If you haven't had chickens that you raised from baby chicks you probably think, "what's the big deal", but it is exciting!  What can I say.

Today's breakfast of scrambles eggs and turkey bacon.
After eating, I went out to the coop and found another green egg today!

I haven't been having near the comments that I used to have.
I hope it's not that my blog is failing!
I just haven't been joining many Linky parties lately.
Yeah, that's it.
Hey, you chicken people out there . . . . support me on this  : ))

Maybe I should go back and do more tablescaping!

Best Fudge!

I discovered this a couple years ago at my local grocery store.  I hope you can get it at yours because it is the most like homemade fudge I've ever had.

Sometimes Things Just Don't Turn Out!

Usually the things I bake are good but sometimes NOT!
This was a NOT moment!
This is the recipe with only 2 ingredients.
Angle food cake mix and a can of crushed pineapple.
It looks good doesn't it!
It's NOT!

I think it's partially the texture.  It is like a sponge cake.  I think they mentioned that but I forgot I don't like sponge cake.

Since cake is my favorite things, the act of tossing this in the garbage can means a lot!!

And I felt good I was done with it!
I have to go delete the pin from my Pinterest!!!

Hmmm, wonder what I should bake next??

Today With Echo

Michele and I went to the barn today.
Michele played with Vinnie, the horse she takes lessons on while I rode Echo.
Then Michele rode Echo and I took these couple pictures.  The horses had been out since early this morning so he sure didn't have much energy!

I think Echo figures he didn't get his nap time!!!!
Poor baby . . . like our horses get overworked!!!!!  They are so SPOILED!

I wore a pair of my new cowboy boots.  Michele calls them my cockroach killers since they have the pointed toes!!
Next I should show up in one of my cowboy hats!!

Water is Frozen . . . Winter is Here.

When I went out this morning to let my chickens out of their coop, the outside waterer was frozen.  The one inside wasn't yet but the water is very cold and it won't be long before the temps dip further and that will freeze too.  I put away the outside waterer till Spring and I hooked up the heated dog water bowl that I got for this purpose.
They were very curious and immediately went over and took a drink of the nice water.
If the temp goes below 40 degrees, it switches on so the water never freezes.

My hook-up isn't very attractive but it works.  The timer is on the light that goes on at 4am.  I'm trying to get me more that 2 eggs a week and just from one chicken!

Here's their nesting boxes.  I put up a huge poster in there of all the different kinds of chickens and ducks.

Here's where they roost at night with the poop catcher underneath.

One of their feeders.
Hope you enjoyed the tour of the coop!

2012 Thanksgiving, Kids and New Puppy

I used to have all the Thanksgiving dinners at my house but since the grandkids have arrived and we also celebrate little Jack's birthday, we go to my sons house.  I get off really easy now since I just take a couple things.
This year I took a crock pot full of corn chowder and a blueberry and a banana bread.

My little family minus Michele who is taking the photo.
It was one delicious meal!!
The turkey was deep fried by my son.  A bunch of guys get together every Thanksgiving and do a bunch of them.

Yes, that's me with a mouthful of food glaring at the photographer!

Today was the first day we got to meet the new puppy.  She's just under 10 weeks old.
A beautiful little Weimaraner, the same breed as Gretchen was that they lost a few months ago.
She was 15 years old.

Here's my two grandchildren in their tree house.  Started by dad and will be finished next summer.

Look at those ears!  She's soooooo cute.

Awwwww.  She is at the age she tries to eat everything in the yard!

Her name is Sofie

Here's Michele meeting Sofie for the first time.

Linda, Ava and puppy.

My son and his son, Jack, looking over the toy ads!!

My two gorgeous grandchildren!
Ava and Jack

Hope you had a great get together with your family too.

Thanksgiving Card and a Word from the Boys

As my regular readers know, my sister makes the most beautiful cards.
Here is this year's Thanksgiving card.  I really love this one.  Plain and very artsy I think.

I think I'm going to use this verse for the Thanksgiving prayer before dinner.

Handsome Rockford

Mr. Monk

Ha Ha . . . I'm in and your out!!

Breakfast on the Girls

OJ, bacon, 2 toasts with butter and jam and two perfect easy-over eggs from my girls.
Plus coffee of course.

And I got a third egg today.  : ))

Second Egg From Who???

I got my second egg today.  It's bigger the the first.  (The lighter tan one on the left.)  It's even bigger than the large Eggland white eggs!!
I can't say for sure who laid it.

Was it you again Martha??
I need a web-cam!!

The girls outside enjoying these beautiful November days.

Notice Pepsi the cat.  She keeps a close eye on the chickens!

I hope she's not sharpening her claws with them in mind!!

A Little Ride On Echo

I went to the barn today to ride Echo for awhile.  There was a lot going on in the barn plus a huge dump truck came past the arena doorway to dump stones in the back.  He only spooked once when he heard those air brakes!  No big thing though.

I rode while my friend William (90 yrs old) was getting his lesson on his mare, Blue, a fox trotter.

I've been riding Echo in a mechanical hackamore for a month or so.  He does well in it.
  No bit in his mouth.

I Feel Like A New Mother!

Today, before I left for the barn, I was changing the chicken's water and tidying up the coop and the whole time, Martha (Head chicken) was sitting in one of the nesting boxes.  (First time I've ever seen her actually sit in there.)  She wasn't cackling or singing the egg squawk, . . just sitting in there quiet.
I removed the porcelain nesting egg from under her because I was afraid maybe she was getting "broody".  What do I know, I'm new at this!!
I went to the barn and when I got home, I checked the nesting box and there it was!!!!!

I was so excited!!!  I feel like a new mother!
I couldn't even hug Martha as they were all on their roost because it was after dark.

Thank you Martha!!

I love this look!

I saw this on Houzz and I love that blue two piece cupboard to the left.  I need that at the end of my kitchen!!  I wonder if my carpenter that redid my kitchen could make that for me?

My Bargain of the Day!

If you remember my post of last week or so about my new western boots; well, they are really nice but also cost quite a bit.
Today I stopped in Kohls because I had a 30% off coupon and also a $10. off card.
I was wandering the store for something I needed as I had bought 2 pair of jeans at 30% off yesterday!
In the shoe department I spotted a couple "fashion" cowboy boots.  They were reduced from $69.95 to $29.95 and $39.95.  I found ones that fit and with my coupons in my hot little hand I ran to the cash register!
Here's what I got.
I know they probably aren't made as good as the real western Tony Lama boots from the tack shop but, hey, if they last a year or two it's well worth what I paid and they'll work for riding!!!

$44.70 for 2 pair of boots!

Of course no boot will be worth to me what my MUCK boots are in the winter!
Although I no longer ever, EVER have to muck out horse stalls, they are the warmest boots I've ever had for anything you do in the winter in the snow and cold!!!
