A 5 Egg Day

Yesterday was beautiful, in the 40's and sunny.  The girls got their treat of greens which they love but yesterday I only got 2 or 3 eggs.

Today was awful, weather wise.  It turned colder, was extremely windy and we had side ways rain all day!!

But today was a 5 Egg Day!!!!
"Good Girls"!!
(Maybe because they stayed in more and got bored!)

Bargains and Buys

I went shopping at a couple of my favorite places this past Sunday.
First, my biggest bargain was from Good Will.
This cute, light weight, quilted jacket cost me $3.00!!!!!
It's a wedgwood blue color and looks like it's never been worn!

I then went to the Medina Antique Mall.  It's very big and I didn't really expect to find any huge bargains.  However I got these two cute tea pots for very reasonable prices.  The little one cupper was $6.99 and the taller rose bud one was $9.99.

Now this blue and white one I won on Ebay.  It will go well with my Blue Willow type dishes.
The silver plate tea stainers are something I've wanted for awhile for loose tea leaves.
Prices weren't too high but then there's that darn shipping.
I think I'd do better just going to the antique mall.
Of course flea markets and garage sales will be starting up soon.
Spring, where are you???

My Helpful Hint for the Week

Every winter I get skin cracks beside my nail on my thumbs.  Especially my right hand that I have to use constantly.  They are so painful because everything you do, you keep breaking the little crack open. OUCH!
I have been using Neosporin and a bandaid to try to fix this.  It's great for at night but once you have your hands in and out of water, it doesn't work very well.
My son, of all people, told me what he and his crew do for this.  (He's in construction and works in the cold a great deal of the time.)
He just said, ""Try Chapstick"!

Now, anything like this, (Vaseline, Burt's Bees, Udder cream etc.) would work.  The trick is to constantly put it in the crack so it doesn't dry out and split open again.
The thing about Chapstick is that you can have it right in your pocket and reapply it often.
I've used it for about a week now and mine are about healed up.

That's my helpful hint  : ))

Winter Supper By The Fire

It was cold and damp out today.  The kind of cold that just goes through you.
I started a fire in the fireplace to warm myself.
I pulled up a small tea table and decided to have supper in here.
So cozy.

Simple Menu:
Turkey Burgers
Turkey dressing
Green beans

Tea and shortbread cookies for desert.
Have a nice evening everyone.

A Riding Day

It got cold again today with some snow flurries but my daughter and I went to the barn anyway because it's going to get even colder over the weekend.
I rode Echo for awhile.  I wanted to make sure he had calmed down from a couple days ago when he was real spooky.  (Unlike him)  Who knows what gets into them!
He was good today though and we had a nice ride.

Michele had a lesson on Vinny, an Arab cross that she is thinking of getting.
He's quite stunning.
Today she got to pony another horse which neither of us has ever done!
What fun!!!

It's good for my soul and my mental health to go to the barn with the horses!!!

A Treat For My Girls

I got my chickens a forage cake and gave it to them today.
It has good chicken treats in there like scratch and corn etc.
They were very hesitant at first but finally pecked at it.
It was warm this morning (40) but got really windy and dropped about 10-15 degrees.
I like spending time with my animals at home as well as my horses at the barn.
Someone asked me if my chickens have names.  Of course I named them!  After all. I'm the only mother they ever knew since I got them at one day old.  : ))
The two golden ones are Martha and Molly, the black and white one is Dottie, the white one is Lily and the dark brown one is Eggo.  Actually the white one and the dark brown one are the same breed, just different colors.  They are Easter Eggers and they give me the green and bluish eggs.

The Greatest Budget Meal!

Last Saturday I got a couple big turkey drumsticks and made a big pot of soup.
Simple, just a big soup pot of water, the drumsticks with onions, carrots and celery, salt and pepper.
It cooked all afternoon.
When the meat was tender, I took the meat off the bones and that was it!
I divided it in a bunch of containers of about 2 cups each, put a couple in the refrigerator and froze the rest.
I will have a lot of meals out of this because I love soup.
Each time I open another container I add something else like noodles or another vegetable.
MMMMM good.
That'll warm you up in the winter and chase that cold or flu away.
And all for under $4.00!

Good and Healthy

My Horrendous Day!

Got up late which started my day on a downward spiral!

I quick let the chickens out and fed the dogs and cats.
Fed me.
Took Monk to the groomer at 11am.
Had to return home to retrieve my iPhone which I forgot
Decided to cut Rocky's nails while my phone was in the charger.
Cut one nail too short and it started bleeding all over my carpet.
Put Rocky in bathroom while I scrubbed the carpet.
Left to pick up Monk at groomer and get a septic stick pencil.
Home with Monk who is weak in the hind quarters from his bath etc.
Monk slowly exits the car and lays in the driveway for 15 minutes before making it to the house.
I go into the bathroom to see if Rocky's nail has stopped bleeding.
It seemed to stop so I let him out of the bathroom.
I clean up the bathroom which looks like I had slaughtered a pig in there!
Rocky wants to go out so I let him out.
I see his nail has started to bleed again and now there is blood all over the wood deck.
I try to cover his foot and rush him back into the bathroom.
I try the septic stick I got at the drug store.
It doesn't even slow the bleeding down.
Drip . . . . drip . . . . drip.
I try cornstarch.
That doesn't work either.
I wrap Rocky's foot with a Maxie pad with cornstarch, Elasticon and a horse leg wrap I cut to fit.
I call the vet who is right up my road.
She says to call back in 1 hour if it doesn't stop.
The bandage is saturated in a half hour.
I call the vet back and head up the road after re-wrapping and putting a plastic bag on his foot!
At the vet it took 3 minutes and a silver nitrate stick to stop the bleeding!!!
She sent one home with me.
The bleeding hasn't started again and everything is fine.
Both dogs are sleeping.
If I had only not forgotten my phone this morning!!!

I'm exhausted!

Valentine Party

It's almost valentines Day so I'm posting this table with Susan At BNOTP for "Tablescape Thursday". Find all the other participants and Susan's wonderful blog here:

A Re-do On My Valentine Party

Red and white. My second favorite after blue and white or just plain white.
I'm "replaying" this post because it was one of my favorites!

I suppose I could've gotten some red rose petals instead of the little hearts but that's all I could think of with these dishes I had.

This entire table are dishes from GW or some other thrift shop. (Except for the square polka dot plates which are from Marshalls.)

The red stainless flatware is from Walmart.

Awww, the tea drinker (me) will sit here.

I had to use my birdies again. Lets call them love birds.

As evening approaches I light the candles.

Now it looks very romantic.

I didn't really have a centerpiece so I had to improvise!

Layering dishes, I love it!

Now, all I need is Mr Valentine!!
No, No, I was fibbing!!!!!!!!
I didn't say that!
Nope, nope nope!!!

Happy Valentines Day everyone.

All My Tea Pots . . . . so far

I saw a post on someone's blog about their tea pots and it made me look around to see how many I've collected over the years.
I have quite a few so I thought I'd show them to you.

I have 11 so far.

This is my newest one I bought a few weeks ago on eBay.

I think I picked this one up at a garage sale

These next two were from my aunt Addah's estate.
They are antiques and treasured pieces in brown transfer.

This cute little 2 cupper was from a garage sale.

This is the little 2 cupper I use a lot for my afternoon teas when it's just me.
It's by Sadler and I forget where I got it.

This looks the same but is a bigger 6 cup pot.

I think I got this one at Marshalls

My Christmas tea pot that came with the little book "A Cup of Christmas Tea".

I bought this one at Marshals

I forget where I got this little single pot with it's own cup.

That's it for now.  All my pretty tea pots.

Cup of tea anyone?
