Splendor is in the Grass

Our little herd of three horses got an hour on the new grass pasture today. I've been weaning them onto the new spring grass as to not let them have too much sugar and risk the chance of colic. They love it and just bury their heads down there and munch! Now that they're up to an hour they will be able to go out for maybe a half day in the next few. When I tried to get them back through the gate to their regular "dirt" pasture I had to get behind them and encourage them with a couple snaps of the whip. Satire, the little arab, was the last to give up and go on through! A day at the barn with the horses is the best medicine , psychologically speaking, you can have. Of course, I guess you have to be a horse person. My sister wouldn't think that was very relaxing! Even if I don't ride, just being around the horses or grooming them does something for my inner me.

Summertime Ferns

Nothing says summer up north like big pots of ferns. I put them on chairs, on tables and hang them from the gutters! Every year in the fall I try to bring them inside. I try to keep them watered good but within a couple months I have a mess of dried up fern leaves laying all over the floor. I finally give up and pitch them. And every spring I get to buy new ones!!

White Chairs and Geraniums

Today I finished painting three old chairs that I got at garage sales. I painted them all white as I'm in a summer time mood! I spent the rest of my day finding geraniums at a good price. I saw an inspirational photo of one I loved on http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/ so I thought I would try. This is what I came up with. They look nice. I put this one by the back door.

Never too late.

I am attempting to get myself organized, simplify my life, become happier and living in each moment. I am a widow and my children are grown. I have a love of animals that is a big part of my life. My dog Rocky was my husband's hunting dog but was really always really attached to me. I have 2 cats and 3 horses. Unfortunately the horses have to be boarded as I only live on one acre. My son Carl is married and he and Linda have two little ones. A 2 yr. old girl named Ava and a 6 month old boy named Jack. My daughter Michele shares my love of animals and one of the horses; the arab, Satire, is her's. She is a professional photographer.
I love my old house and gardens but if I could sell it for a nice horse property I would. I have always wanted to be able to go out into the barn in the morning and sit with my coffee while the horses munch on their hay.
I finally got a vegetable garden in this year after not having one for about 6 years. Things are just starting to pop out of the ground. Don't you just love Spring!
