Thrifty Tuesday

Just a few bargains this week. Join everyone at http://southernhospitalityrhoda.blogspot.com/ to see what everyone has found.

Isn't this the sweetest little bird bell! It's marked Avon. Got it for $1.00 at a garage sale.

Cute little tea pot from a garage sale for $2.00, and black cups I needed for some black and white dishes. ($1.00 each at GW)

I like the painted wood candlesticks. And positively love that little hunt scene plate. The candle warmer I got at a garage sale and was new ($4.00) but when I got it out of the box it just warms from the bottom not on all sides. Oh well, it works. Just have to keep a screen over the top of the jar so the wax doesn't splash which it will sometimes!!

Don't quite know why I bought these except maybe to tablescape with and to give me something to look for. (Cups and saucers) My mom had these dishes when we were growing up. I could have had a lot of them from her estate but waited till now!! Got these few for $4.00.
Have a good Tuesday everyone. It's off to be with the horses tomorrow for me.

Hornets!!

Just a little post to tell you about my day. I had to have the plumber out to check my boiler and while he was here, I thought I'd have him change my two outdoor spigots. They were leaking and were all crusted with lime. You know . . . well water!! Anyway, he fixed one and then informed me he couldn't get to the front one as I had a hornet's nest right there!!! And to think I was just out there the night before trimming my boxwood with a big cordless trimmer!!! It's a wonder I didn't get attacked. Anyway, I had to call the "Bee-Gon" guy and he came and took care of it. Tomorrow I can remove the nest. Phew!!!!!!!!
Did you know that the hornets make that nest by chewing on wood (probably my mulch) and making a pulp with their saliva to make the paper nests!! Are they clever or what! Well, they shouldn't have put it right where me and my dog are! All gone!

My Great Grandmother's China

Thank you Susan for hosting Tablescape Thursday. You are an inspiration with all of the things on your blog. Be sure to see Susan at http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/

This is my Great Grandmother's china straight from Limoges, France. It gets to come out only for Thanksgiving dinners! (And, of course, now this tablescape!) I haven't found a delicate enough teapot to go with this pattern yet.

These sherbets belonged to my mother and go perfectly with this fine china.

Now, here is this little hand painted rose plate I got at that garage sale last week. See, it goes well with this.

This is my only piece of Haviland from Limoges. I think it fits in here.

I have a set of 10 full place settings of this antique china from Limoges, France. It's from a company called Elite. My great grandmother on my mother's side was French and she brought these from France. Being so delicate, it is a miracle the china survived with no chips or cracks!.

. . . that is until my daughter was fooling around a couple thanksgivings ago and tapped my daughter-in-law on the head with one cup and now I have 9 cups!!

Antique little pitcher. I think it belonged to my husband's mother.

A Lenox vase holds the roses. It was my mother's.

I have several serving pieces with this collection but alas, no teapot.

Here's a rose for you all. Thanks for stopping by. Love to hear from you. Drop me a line.

Thrifty Buys This Week

I know I'm a little late but it's still five minutes to midnight on Monday! Phew!!!!! I made it.

OK, so I didn't really need this set for EIGHT! But I just couldn't pass up the price of $10 for all. It's a cute wildflower pattern. I'll find someone to give it to!
(After I do one Tablescape : ))

This Wedgewood china was a little more than I usually pay at a garage sale ($10.) but I got a setting for four. It's in perfect shape. You can always use more white dishes, right : ))

I got this little soup tureen for $1.00. It was missing it's ladle but I had a silver one.

Isn't this the cutest little china clock. Got it at one of the most organized garage sale I was ever to. It was huge and prices were great. I went back again the next day!! This little clock was $1.00 and it just needed a battery.

Just wanted to show the basket I got last week. I painted it white and hung it on my front door with some summery flowers. Oh dear, better get to painting the door!!!
I just love your comments. Please drop by and say hello.

This Week's Blues

Thanks again Sally for hosting Blue Monday. After you look at these, pop over to Sally's and see all the other ideas people have for this day of blues. http://smilingsally.blogspot.com/

First is this little blue dish with a nest I made. Those are real baby blue jay feathers in there though. Beautiful color! Sort of goes with the logo for Blue Monday : ))

An old granite ware cup. Love the deep color.

I love Bennington Pottery and was really upset when I broke the handle to the little creamer. I still use it though.

A Bennington mixing/pouring bowl. Very useful.

Another piece of Bennington. A small heart shaped bowl.
Thank you all. I love those comments if you feel so inspired.
Have a Great Monday. I'll be babysitting. If I get one minute maybe I can get a picture or two!

Tablescape 7/1 for Just Me.

Now people, after looking at this please go back to Susan's site and look at everyone who is participating. The list is beneath her beautifully done tablescape. Just click here http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/ Thank you for hosting Susan.

Happy 4th of July everyone. Hope you all have neat picnics to go to. I had hoped to do a picnic on the lawn but it rained today. Well, I'll do that one of these summer days.

I've had my flag plates a long time. (Warren Kimble) The flatware is Oneida Community, the blue bowls are Fiesta and I think the glasses were a wedding gift?? Place mats and napkins from Walmart, mugs from GW.

At my little kitchen table on short notice. I'll just leave it set up for breakfast!! Minus one.

Well, this is just a quick little setting I put together after a day of babysitting. which wears me out! I wanted to be sure I didn't miss the holiday though.
Hope everyone has a great 4th of July. The golf course I live on sets huge fireworks off across the lake by my house so I have a whole private show!! Scares the heck out of my dog though. He usually sits on top of me with his head in my armpit!!! And he's a gundog! Go figure.
Be safe.
