Grandma's Wedding Dress
I am the proud owner or caretaker of my Grandmother's wedding dress. (My Mom's mother)
She must have been a tiny little lady when she was married because look at the size of that waist. They always said she had an 18 inch waist so I measured it and indeed it is 18 inches!! Imagine! Just like Scarlett O'Hara! Of course it was probably squeezed in a corset like Scarlett, but even so!
I wish I had a photo of her in the dress. Maybe my sister does as she has a lot of the old family photos. "Sue, if you do, would you send me a copy?"
I'm in the middle of the "Big Ice Storm/Blizzard Warning", hoping I don't lose power!

What a beautiful dress! Everyone was smaller back then. You can tell from the clothes and the old, old chairs. Hope your power stays on. Ours went off for about 15 seconds 45 minutes ago, but it came back on and nothing else since then.
ReplyDeleteStay warm- you can melt ice for water- we used to have to do that, but at least you have a fire place. Push the couch up to it or throw a mattress on the floor in front of it.

Your grandmother's dress is very pretty. Nice detail. And very special that you are able to treasure it.
ReplyDeleteOh Shirley, what a beautiful treasure. It's such a wonderful dress and in lovely condition, I think you're so lucky to be the custodian - hope you can unearth a photograph.

what a treasure!! I would love to be able to see this in person. What year did she marry??
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure to have. Just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing your family heirloom. That netting is so fine and I love the pink ribbon that went on her dress.
