I'm linking this little nature post with A Southern Daydreamer for "Outdoor Wednesday".
I was walking around the pasture yesterday with the horses when I noticed this one tree with these peculiar holes in it. There were no other trees around with the holes. I had heard a woodpecker tapping while I was walking around but once I got close to the tree the sound stopped and I saw no woodpecker. The big hole is about 3 inches in diameter and the small holes are so precise it is amazing. I took the picture back to the barn and they said that it was indeed made by a woodpecker. Amazing. How big is this fellow anyway! I'm keeping my eye out for him and hope to get a photo sometime.
There were about 4 squirrels busily running around. Up and down the trees and chasing each other. Awww, Spring!

That is amazing. I've never seen such a big hole from a woodpecker but I guess anything is possible. I love your new header pictures. So springlike.

Enjoyed your pictures, Shirley. This is funny, apparently there are at least 3 Shirleys who have linked to this party. I don't usually see that many Shirleys in one place. LOL
