What Do You Collect?

One of the things I love and have collected over the years are antique, (and some not so old), stools.
I love to stack them and just put other things on them.  They come in very handy.

My favorite is this old 3 legged milking stool with an old berry bucket on top.

These three are stacked in the corner of my kitchen.

I re-strapped this shaker stool but then the cat got at it!

My bed stool.  My beds are high so I need a step!

This isn't old but so handy to have in my kitchen!

What things do you collect?

Horse Camp, 30 Some Years Ago!

I ran across some old pictures of my kids at a week long horse camp
at Bear Creek Ranch when they were young.
Notice, back then, no helmets, no correct shoes, Michele riding in shorts,
and standing up on horses after a week!!!!
(I must have signed a heavy duty waiver!!!)

Some fun days!

Vintage Sheep Picture

I'm linking this post with Colorado Lady for "Vintage Thingie Thursday"
Please visit her blog to see the other participants.

I've always been attracted to pictures of sheep. I don't know if it's the country feeling about them or the peacefulness that pastoral scenes seem to bring.
This old picture I got a long time ago. I'm not sure if it was at an auction or an estate sale. I don't remember having it in my antique shop so it must have been since then.
It's a print dated 1901 but any signature of the artist is covered up with the matt.

It's quite detailed when you see it.
And it has a barn, chickens, sheep and a dog! What's not to love.

I've never taken it apart because I'm afraid the paper is too fragile. As you can see the back is made with wide planks.

There's Mama and her little lambs.

I guess that could be an Australian shepherd keeping watch.

The frame is old and chipped but still usable. I'm just deciding where I should hang it. It's been shoved back in the closet too long.

Favorite Things Sunday

This was my first week that I participated in "Sunday Favorites". (August 'o9) Hosting this event is Chari at Happy To Design. Visit all the people signing in at: http://happytodesign.blogspot.com/
Thanks Chari.

Tonight I went upstairs with good intentions of straightening out my pie safe cupboard that I use to store fabric, sewing stuff and anything else I just want to keep! Well, I found a box full of stuff and before I knew it, it was midnight. Well, now it is really Sunday!

Now, this was one of my favorite things!! . . . Until my dog thought it was his toy. I rescued it but it needs some major repair!

Just some things I had put away to save in the cupboard. There was a whole box of things.

Always liked this little picture. It's true (as with most animals), "A dog loves you no matter what."

I used to paint animals and wildlife, way back when the kids were little! This is a little one of one of our Abyssinian cats that I did.

I ran across a snapshot of Jack and I of the day we got married. (A younger me!! Wow look at all that hair, and what color is that anyway!)

This is a large piece of tatting that my Mom did. She used to work really fast with the little shuttle. (I think that's what it was called, not sure.)

A close-up of the tatting work.

A little piece of tatting my Mom did.

This is a beautiful, very old baby bonnet done with tatting. I don't think my Mom did this. Maybe her mother did. Isn't it precious! (My sister told me it was Mom's baby bonnet.)

The inside of this little bonnet is silk and soooo fragile.

All this old lace.

I have bags of old lace that I used to buy at garage sales and estate sales, auctions etc. when I had a shoppe. I haven't seen it in awhile. There must be something I could do with this. I know there are some crafty, beautiful things I could make but I don't know what. Do any of you have any ideas?? Something vintage or cottage looking . . .
Well, that's all for this evening. See, I never did get my cupboard straightened up. I constantly get distracted! That's why I have trouble getting anything done. Oh Hum! There's just not enough hours in the day.
Have a great Sunday.

Vintage Things!

I'm joining "Vintage Thingies Thursday" with a couple different kind of vintage things! Check Colorado Lady's blog to see the others.

This is a picture of my Grandfather Joseph Wickersham. (My Dad's father.) He died of appendicitis when my Dad was 7 years old. (It was like a year before penicillin!!) I don't know the year of this photo. He was quite a handsome fellow wasn't he. He looks like a movie star playing a part in a movie about the 1800's!

This is my Grandmother Cora Wickersham. Knowing her as I did, this outfit was a little risque for her!! : ))

And then, guess who. This is me 40+++ years ago after graduating from Huron Road School of Nursing in Cleveland, OH.
Oh My. . .
They must have touched this photo up as I don't ever remember my eyebrows being so perfect!

Here are some pieces I've had for a long time. This primitive milking stool is one of my favorite things. The little berry bucket on top I love too!

Here is a piece of tramp art. probably from the early 1900's.
I had planned on a couple all together different things this week but didn't get a chance to find and photograph them! I hope next week, I'll have them.

Vintage Thingies Thursday, misc

I'm joining in at Colorado Lady for "Vintage Thingies Thursday".
Visit her blog here for everyone else's Vintage Things!

Misc. Thingies Around My House

This very old chest was handmade by my great grandfather. I love the simple lines of it. I inherited it when my mother died and will always treasure it.

The other things here are sort of kitcheny. I've had this old cracker tin for a long time. I like the red color.

This old bundt pan is pretty enough to hang on the wall! . . . which I did : ))

I got this great white ironstone casserole dish from Goodwill this past year. Very handy piece that goes with anything.

Have a good Thursday. More next week : ))

Vintage Kitchen Thingies

I'm joining Suzanne of Colorado Lady for "Vintage Thingies". Please visit all the participants. There's always really interesting "Thingies".

Vintage Kitchen Items

I'm posting a few of my favorite antique kitchen items. Most of these things I use.
The first is an old scale that I mostly use to weigh my flour for bread making. But I have had to weigh other things like apples etc. when the recipe calls for a weight.

Now . . . this has got to be one of my very favorites!! I REALLY LOVE milkshakes. This, of course, makes the best chocolate milkshakes ever!

I just found this cutie. An old egg crate. It holds 18 eggs. Now, as soon as I get chickens, I will be using it : ))

I've had numerous different flour sifters but I have a couple of these right now. They work just fine if you find it necessary to sift.
Those are my thingies for this week. Going to go see everyone else's things now.
Have a great Thursday. I'm hoping the garage sales start soon!!
