Christmas on the Mantel

My mantel is the first thing I decorate.
I'm not sure if I'll get a tree up or not so this and some other little touches around the house may be it!

Here's the beautiful handmade Christmas card that my sister made this year.

Have fun decorating.

My Grandmother's Wedding Dress

I'm linking this post with "White Wednesday" at Faded Charm.

Grandma's Wedding Dress

I am the proud owner or caretaker of my Grandmother's wedding dress. (My Mom's mother)
She must have been a tiny little lady when she was married because look at the size of that waist. They always said she had an 18 inch waist so I measured it and indeed it is 18 inches!! Imagine! Just like Scarlett O'Hara! Of course it was probably squeezed in a corset like Scarlett, but even so!

It has yellowed over the years but is still pretty well intact.
All the lace, silk and fine netting.

The stitching is so fine I can't tell if it's machine or hand done.

I wish I had a photo of her in the dress. Maybe my sister does as she has a lot of the old family photos. "Sue, if you do, would you send me a copy?"

The back is closed with little hook and eyes.

Have a great Wednesday everyone.
I'm in the middle of the "Big Ice Storm/Blizzard Warning", hoping I don't lose power!

White Wednesday

I'm joining this party at Faded Charm
See all the other participants here:

White Wednesday

I came across a table setting I did in the summer. I love white dishes. I have lots of them!! They just go with everything!
Already I'm missing summer.
We are supposed to get our first hard freeze tonight : ((

Well, this will have to hold me till next summer.
In the meantime, I'll have to get the quilts out and bundle up in front of the fire.
Have a nice White Wednesday

Whiter Than White

Rauls

What could be more beautiful than a white arab horse. This one is nearly 35 years old. His owner is 88! Before William bought him he had stood in a pasture all by himself for 15 long years. I think William has owned him about 7 or 8 years now. He was very calm in the first hours he was brought to his new barn. (Possibly drugged?) But all of a sudden he "woke up" and was like a young arab! William learned to ride on this horse!! He used to climb on and they'd let him go and it was off to the races. They are quite a team. Now he is retired with his pasture mates in a nice little barn with beautiful pastures. William comes to see and groom him nearly everyday. He is much loved by us all.

These photos were taken a week ago right after his fall bath.

He seemed to glow in the sunlight.

He may be older but he still has the heart of a young arab.

My 1st White Wednesday

This will be the first week I've joined in with Kathleen at Faded Charm for "White Wednesday".

Misc. Whites

This is the handkerchief that I carried as "something old" at my wedding to Jack.
It was old then, so who knows how old it is now!!

This is even much older! This was my mother's baby bonnet! It is very fragile all hand made with silk and tatting on it. I plan on making a shadowbox for it to preserve it.

The old white chair with red geraniums on my back deck.

The next three pictures are of 2 beautiful beings. One is a horse and one is his owner. This white arabian is 34 years old and still going strong. His name is Rauls.

This is William on Rauls. William's birthday is today. He is 88 years old. He owns 3 horses and rides 3-4 times a week. He has a doctorate and was a college professor in finance. He was a WW II war hero; a flyer of course! He likes to go fast!
My daughter and I met William when we first got horses. He is sharp as a tack and is a wonderful rider; not afraid of anything!

We feel privileged to be a friend of him and his wife.
Photo credits for the last 3 photos go to my daughter at:

Hope you enjoyed. See you next week!
