We Have Sprouts!

This is the third day after soaking and the little sprouts are doing well.

This was sort of like the bean project in grade school!!

When I have a 4-5 inch forest, I'll let the chickens have some.
Then I'm going to start a few big containers of different types of seeds like wheat, rye, beans etc.
It says from about 2 lbs of seed, you get 6 lbs of sprouted seed which is much more nutritious.

A Better Day!

It's 7am and 3 degrees.
But . . .
Is that what I think it is!!
 Blue sky?

 Sun shinning in?

 Beautiful sun!

 It's shinning on me!!

This is going to be a much better day!

Morning . . . Should I just Stay in Bed!

OH NO.
Not more snow!

Mom, get up or I'm going to hit you!
Everyone needs fed!

I thought I'd start with a really healthy smoothie.

It was good, but not quite enough.
I had to go for the pancakes!!!
Where's my coffee!!

Now I have to feed the dogs, feed the barn cats and let the chickens out.
And it's 12 degrees and snowing.
I hate winter!!!!

Trying to Sprout Seeds

OK, they say it's easy to sprout seeds and make good wholesome fodder for your chickens.
So I'm trying my hand at it.
This is what I hope to end up with:

Here's what I have so far.
I soaked my organic barley seeds for two days and rinsed them a couple times a day.
Now they are in the light of the window and are starting to sprout.
This is sort of like gardening grass!!
They are in the big container then I put them in three fat mason jars too.
Remember this is a test.
It it works, I'll be sprouting a lot more.

I took the chickens their treats for the day and added a few sprouted seeds in there.  They ate them up first.  Must be good.

So, that's my latest endeavor.
Well, this winter is taking forever to be done with!!!!!

Creamy Scrambled Eggs

After all these years, I finally learned the right way to make creamy scrambled eggs!
And I learned it from Downton Abby!!!
I'll never make my scrambled eggs any other way now!  They are delicious!

As you can see, my girls have been laying me some beautiful eggs most of the winter!  I get one or two a day from the five of them, which is fine for me.

Aren't they beautiful!

With lovely golden yolks.

OK,  First, we aren't going to ever again use a skillet for making the eggs.
Use a saucepan and melt a good sized Tbsp of butter in there for two eggs.
Add 1 or 2 Tbsp of cream to the eggs and beat slightly.

Now, this is the important part.
With heat on low-medium, start stirring the eggs and don't stop.

Keep stirring; they will start to thicken.  When they do, shut off the heat and keep stirring till you have a creamy consistency and eggs are cooked.

Salt and pepper is all they need and they are heavenly!

NO MORE DRY SCRAMBLED EGGS!!

Recipe from Downton is on my Pinterest page under Breakfast.

It Snowed AGAIN!

Yes, it wasn't supposed to snow ALL day but it did.
I hope they aren't kidding us about the 40 and 50 degree temps coming this week.
We need a break!

I took treats out to the chickens and served them inside the coop.
(My chickens will not put their little tootsies in the snow!!)

The barn cats watched intently as I feed the chickens.  Of course they didn't move from their fleece blankets and heat lamp!!

I think my animals are a little spoiled!

Happy Valentines Day and stuff like that.

I know, it's been awhile.  I have had some health issues that I won't bore you with.
Hopefully they are over with and I can resume a life!!!
The doggies, cats, chickens and horses are fine.
Dexter does not like the cold so he's wondering, like the rest of us, if it will ever get warm again!!

Monk likes the snow and likes to go out and lay in it but then comes in and does what he does best . . . sleep and snore.

Today I went out to give the chickens some treats.  (Greens, blueberries, corn and oatmeal topped with meal worms, their favorite!!)

Dottie, the black and white hen is moulting her tail feathers.  I thought they were supposed to do that in the fall!

While they were out in the run I changed their water and dumped their poop board, (which is the red toboggan under their roasting poles.)  Being a toboggan, it's very easy to slide it out and through the snow to the compost pile!

I then fill it with the PDZ which is actually for horse stalls but it does a great job of immediately drying the chicken poop so it can be easily scooped like cat litter and it is harmless to the chickens.  It also keeps it from ever smelling.  I also put some DE mixed in as they like to dust themselves in it when its new and clean.

Little Pepsi watched me the whole time hoping to get a chance to get into the coop but if she did, the chickens would just chase her out.  She's the non-aggressive of the two barn cats.
