Satire's Winter Update

This post is linked to "Mosaic Monday" at The Little Red House.

Satire's Update
Here is a montage of photos my daughter took the other day.
Satire had his colic surgery the 1st of October and has completely recovered.
Not bad for a 32 year old!! Of course he is an Arab : ))
He is able to be ridden as of January however my daughter is being overly cautious and gave him an extra month of just ground work. He seems healthy and happy and his wonderful feisty personality is back too.

Visit Michele photography website for lots more photos.

Favorite Things Sunday

This was my first week that I participated in "Sunday Favorites". (August 'o9) Hosting this event is Chari at Happy To Design. Visit all the people signing in at: http://happytodesign.blogspot.com/
Thanks Chari.

Tonight I went upstairs with good intentions of straightening out my pie safe cupboard that I use to store fabric, sewing stuff and anything else I just want to keep! Well, I found a box full of stuff and before I knew it, it was midnight. Well, now it is really Sunday!

Now, this was one of my favorite things!! . . . Until my dog thought it was his toy. I rescued it but it needs some major repair!

Just some things I had put away to save in the cupboard. There was a whole box of things.

Always liked this little picture. It's true (as with most animals), "A dog loves you no matter what."

I used to paint animals and wildlife, way back when the kids were little! This is a little one of one of our Abyssinian cats that I did.

I ran across a snapshot of Jack and I of the day we got married. (A younger me!! Wow look at all that hair, and what color is that anyway!)

This is a large piece of tatting that my Mom did. She used to work really fast with the little shuttle. (I think that's what it was called, not sure.)

A close-up of the tatting work.

A little piece of tatting my Mom did.

This is a beautiful, very old baby bonnet done with tatting. I don't think my Mom did this. Maybe her mother did. Isn't it precious! (My sister told me it was Mom's baby bonnet.)

The inside of this little bonnet is silk and soooo fragile.

All this old lace.

I have bags of old lace that I used to buy at garage sales and estate sales, auctions etc. when I had a shoppe. I haven't seen it in awhile. There must be something I could do with this. I know there are some crafty, beautiful things I could make but I don't know what. Do any of you have any ideas?? Something vintage or cottage looking . . .
Well, that's all for this evening. See, I never did get my cupboard straightened up. I constantly get distracted! That's why I have trouble getting anything done. Oh Hum! There's just not enough hours in the day.
Have a great Sunday.

Obsession With The Water Tub

They Aren't Drinking!

They are PLAYING IN THE WATER!
They swish their heads back and forth and up and down and splash the water all over!
They even did it last week when there were chunks of ice in the water.

First it was just Echo and now Preacher is doing it too.

Sometimes Echo takes a break and just licks Preacher!

They just make a mess of the water.

I changed the water and filled the tub again and now Echo is splashing it all over the ground and making mud!
They really must be bored!

Me . . . Sledding??

I'm linking this post to "Seasonal Sundays" at The Tablescaper.

Awwwww, Winter!

Actually, I've been thinking about doing this for awhile. Ever since we've had all this snow and we got some little sleds for the grandkids for Christmas.
So after using my toboggan to bring some firewood in, I told my sister to come out and take some pictures.
My driveway is long and has just a little decline. Well, I'm starting small!

I had to use my hands to get started.

Then I quickly picked up speed. What fun!
I mean I wasn't going at the speed of light or anything . . .
after all, there's a road down there!

Rocky didn't know what to think of it. I think he was watching for traffic!

No, I didn't tip over.

After going down about 3 times, I'm ready for a bigger hill!
Hmmmm, there's a bigger one on the golf course right on the other side of my vegetable garden. Of course that means I'd have to be walking back up. Too bad there's no tow rope!

Maybe I could tie Rocky to the sled and see if he'd pull me!
I'll save that for another day!
It's only 10 degrees out here!

One Pan Cake

I'm linking up with Michael Lee for "Foodie Friday"

One Pan Chocolate Cake

Use a large cake pan. (9 X 13)
No need to grease
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Put ingredients directly in pan:

2 2/3 C flour
1 1/4 C sugar
1 C unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tsp baking soda
1tsp salt
3/4 C oil
2 TBS distilled white vinegar
1 TBS vanilla extract
2 C warm water
12 oz bag of chocolate chips (reserved for after cake is baked)

Put all dry ingredients in pan and mix with a whisk.

Make 3 wells in dry ingredients and put oil in one, vinegar in one and vanilla in the other.
then pour the 2 cups warm water over the top.

Mix up all the ingredients well, making sure to get into the corners etc.
Now its ready for the oven.
Bake for about 40 minutes until middle is done and pick comes out clean.

When cake is just out of the oven and still hot, pour on the 12 oz bag of chocolate chips.
and let melt. Spread for the frosting.

Finished cake

This is great warm with ice cream of course!!

Yummmmm!
Shirley's little notes:
If I do this cake again, I think I'd just use a regular frosting because, as this is delicious warm, you've got to realize that once it cools all the way, the chocolate chip frosting turns back to a solid. It is like eating cake with a chocolate bar on top. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's CHOCOLATE! it's still good! Maybe if you put it in the microwave it would get soft again, I haven't tried that yet.

Annie's Short Visit

I told Rocky he was going to have a little girl doggie visitor for a week or two! My sister was coming to visit me from Erie and she was bringing Annie, her little Pekinese. Rocky was waiting with his favorite toy in his mouth at the door!

I guess Annie cried all the way from Erie to here (2 hours) in the car. When she arrived, we introduced the two dogs outside on leashes. They sniffed each other and Annie barked a little but all was fine. Rocky didn't pay much attention.

Inside she wouldn't leave my sister or Bob's side and constantly cried.
Sue, my sister, decided that she wouldn't have much of a vacation if she had Annie crying all the time, so Bob took Annie back home with him!

My daughter Michele was so disappointed because she wanted to photograph her.
However these are the photos I took of her outside so they will have to do for her photo shoot for now!!
She loves the snow and buries her head it it!

Oh well, maybe another time Annie!!

Cheesy Hash Brown Potato Casserole

This is a repeat from awhile back but I wanted to join the new food "party" at Cocina Diary.

Check it out:

Cheesy Hash Brown Potatoes

I bought a bag of these never frozen hash brown potatoes in the refrigerated section of the grocery store. This recipe (well close enough), was on the back.

Mix together:

The bag of hash browns (probably 2 cups if you do your own)
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 can of Cr. of Chicken soup
1 cup of sour cream
1/4 cup of melted butter

Spray the inside of a 2 qt baking dish with Pam
Spread mixture into dish
Make a topping of crushed corn flakes and melted butter.
(I didn't have any corn flakes so I crushed up some croutons with the melted butter and it was good)

Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until potatoes are tender.

Enjoy!!
Super Easy, Super Good!

I think the croutons made it even better!

All done.

Now . . . don't these look good!!!!! That's a turkey burger with the green beans.
