It is fast becoming the new super food. It always has been but everyone is noticing it now.
And that includes me!
I've been using it for a few months now and I keep reading and discovering new ways to use it.
I cook and bake with it instead of vegetable oil.
(Or I use part olive oil and part coconut oil)
I replaced margarine a long time ago with good ol' butter but now I'm sort of replacing butter with coconut oil.
I love the taste.
I love cinnamon bread so I toast it and spread coconut oil on top instead of butter.
Coconut oil melts at 76 degrees so that's faster than butter!
Love the taste.
One of my most favorite things is putting a teaspoon of coconut oil in my coffee.
Here's how I make a cup of coffee now.
I put a teaspoon of coconut oil in my cup with a little sweet butter. (Yes, butter)
Then I run my coffee from my Keurig into the cup.
I add a drop of vanilla and some cream plus a little stevia.
I whip it up with a whisk (but I have a milk frother coming!)
like this one:
Try this for your morning coffee. It's heavenly!
If you feel any oil on your lips just rub it in because it's great for your lips and skin.
I always wipe a little on the back of my hands every time I open the jar!!
Now for the health benefits of coconut oil!!!
There's many, many, many!!
Here's some sites that talk more about the heath benefits.

So Shirley, is this like a consistency of shortening?...:)JP
ReplyDeleteNot as dense as shortening and it melts very easily at 76 degrees. Sometimes if it's sitting on top of the stove when the oven is on, it will turn to liquid.
DeleteIs any brand better than another? Where did you get yours?
ReplyDeleteSue
What is the best brand. Where did you get yours?
ReplyDeleteI use Nutiva, but there's other brands too. I think I got mine at Giant Eagle but you can get it in most grocery stores now.
DeleteGet virgin or extra virgin (same), organic, cold pressed and non-GMO.
The first thing I cooked with my jar of coconut oil were eggs. I did not like that one bit lol. I do like the taste of the oil but it just wasn't right with my eggs. I am sure it is much better on toast with cinnamon.
ReplyDeleteWhen I think of it ahead of time I put a teaspoonful in my mouth and swish it around and around for as long as I can. Then I spit it in the garbage and brush my teeth. They come out so smooth and nice and my gums and tongue feel fresher.
For those who have trouble not snacking after dinner I'd bet this would completely curb the cravings and you could go to bed with the freshest, cleanest mouth.
You've convinced me! I'm going to put this on my grocery list right now. Thanks, Shirley.
ReplyDeleteI use it a lot and am starting to put it in my coffee. My next thing was to try the butter in coffee too--you are the second one to describe this, though your process does not seem so complicated. I think I am almost convinced. I'll try your method!
