One Pan Cake

I'm linking up with Michael Lee for "Foodie Friday"

One Pan Chocolate Cake

Use a large cake pan. (9 X 13)
No need to grease
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Put ingredients directly in pan:

2 2/3 C flour
1 1/4 C sugar
1 C unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tsp baking soda
1tsp salt
3/4 C oil
2 TBS distilled white vinegar
1 TBS vanilla extract
2 C warm water
12 oz bag of chocolate chips (reserved for after cake is baked)

Put all dry ingredients in pan and mix with a whisk.

Make 3 wells in dry ingredients and put oil in one, vinegar in one and vanilla in the other.
then pour the 2 cups warm water over the top.

Mix up all the ingredients well, making sure to get into the corners etc.
Now its ready for the oven.
Bake for about 40 minutes until middle is done and pick comes out clean.

When cake is just out of the oven and still hot, pour on the 12 oz bag of chocolate chips.
and let melt. Spread for the frosting.

Finished cake

This is great warm with ice cream of course!!

Yummmmm!
Shirley's little notes:
If I do this cake again, I think I'd just use a regular frosting because, as this is delicious warm, you've got to realize that once it cools all the way, the chocolate chip frosting turns back to a solid. It is like eating cake with a chocolate bar on top. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's CHOCOLATE! it's still good! Maybe if you put it in the microwave it would get soft again, I haven't tried that yet.

  1. That looks SO good! I'll bet your grandkids love this! I can see only one drawback here. There's no bowl to lick. We all fight over the bowl here- LOL!
Hope you have a great weekend and all the horses are doing ok in this freezing cold!
    Hugs- Tete

  2. It looks absolutely scrumptious, Shirley! However, I'm glad you mentioned the chips solidifying again...makes sense...I bet Nutella would be a yummy icing!...:)JP
