I'm joining the "Vintage Thingies Thursday" party this week. Thank you Suzanne for hosting this one. It is so interesting. Visit all the participant's blogs to see! http://coloradolady.blogspot.com/
The next three photos are of a watch fob made of human hair. It is a Victorian piece with a locket attached. Please see history of Victorian hair jewelry here. http://www.victorianhairartists.com/VictorianHairworkHistory.html
This piece will be on my eBay site starting this evening. (Along many other numerous things and lots of scrap-booking supplies.)
Hair was intricately braided to make these pieces! This particular piece is in pristine condition.
Here are some pretty hankies I have with hand done edges. I love the ones with tatting as that is becoming a lost art.
This hankie was my wedding hankie. (Something old.) It is very beautiful, don't you think?

The braided jewelry is so fascinating, but I could never touch it. Love the linens ... I treasure tatted edging.

I thought that was an ornament worn in the hair...not made out of hair. Oh my gosh.
ReplyDeleteThe linens are in phenomenal condition. So white and pretty.
Wonderful Thingies. I love those old hankies. I always buy them for my mom. she saves them and uses the less ornate ones. I love the picture of your dog. I used to have a GSP, Spot, that looked like an english pointer~ We never docked her tail. She was a most awesome dog that we so miss. She was a kind soul. We now have an English Setter who is also a great dog.
ReplyDeleteI've read a little about hair jewelry but never come across it. Very interesting. Linens are a favorite - anything crocheted, tatted, embroidered - love it all.
ReplyDeleteYou have some beautiful vintage hankies...I too luv all the tatting! Your WEDDING hankie is sooooo PRETTY:) Thanks for coming by for a visit and I hope you will come visit again:)
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Linda

It seems like tatting is becoming more popular but hankies are becoming extinct.
ReplyDeleteThat watch fob is amazing! Your wedding hanky is perfect.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! This hair jewelry is fascinating!
ReplyDeleteI would love to have a piece of that made from my daughters' hair. I have 3 daughter's and they all have blonde hair! Looks like a very intricate process. Love the hanky too! I collect them. I especially love the ones with the tatting. My mother in law knows how to do it, and she tried to teach me. I couldn't grasp it. You should frame it. They look so pretty displayed in frames. Thanks for the great post.

The vintage hankies are so very sweet. Now the vintage hair pieces are quite interesting - it was a differnet time, wasn't it? They are just fascinating.
ReplyDeleteLovely vintage offerings! The hankies are so nice I cannot imagine ever using them.
ReplyDeleteI never would have guessed that it was hair! But when I enlarged it, you could definitely tell. The braiding and weaving is just amazing, and I wonder how long it took to make it. I'll have to check out your link, because now I am very curious. Love your hankies too, especially your wedding one!
ReplyDeleteHappy VTT!
Carol
gorgeous pieces. Wow, the love between beloved back in the day, huh.
ReplyDeleteThe work that went into these pieces! I cannot imagine! Beautiful! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me so excited when someone says they have plenty more!!!! This is an amazing piece, and can not imagine the time it must have taken to make.....I'd be hanging on to that one!! I love your hankies, but then again, they are some of my favorite things! Happy VTT!
ReplyDeleteYour wedding hanky is beautiful! I love the tatting too. I have a friend who made costumes for several years, and she does tatting. And I think you would find that it is still alive and well within certain circles ... like SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) where they make it their mission to keep old arts alive. The human hair weaving is totally amazing.
ReplyDeleteThe watch-fob from human hair is beautiful, as is the your wedding hankie. You have some very cool vintage stuff.
ReplyDeleteoh dear.. the hankies are my fave! white with lacey.. ahhhhh so romantic!
ReplyDeleteI used to live in a house that was 109 years old. I loved it! I studied Victoriana and fell in love with hair art. I purchased two hair keepers and love them both. I was able to see some hair art at a house tour in Marietta, OH. I was so envious. I love your thingies!!
