My Great Grandmother's China

Thank you Susan for hosting Tablescape Thursday. You are an inspiration with all of the things on your blog. Be sure to see Susan at http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/

This is my Great Grandmother's china straight from Limoges, France. It gets to come out only for Thanksgiving dinners! (And, of course, now this tablescape!) I haven't found a delicate enough teapot to go with this pattern yet.

These sherbets belonged to my mother and go perfectly with this fine china.

Now, here is this little hand painted rose plate I got at that garage sale last week. See, it goes well with this.

This is my only piece of Haviland from Limoges. I think it fits in here.

I have a set of 10 full place settings of this antique china from Limoges, France. It's from a company called Elite. My great grandmother on my mother's side was French and she brought these from France. Being so delicate, it is a miracle the china survived with no chips or cracks!.

. . . that is until my daughter was fooling around a couple thanksgivings ago and tapped my daughter-in-law on the head with one cup and now I have 9 cups!!

Antique little pitcher. I think it belonged to my husband's mother.

A Lenox vase holds the roses. It was my mother's.

I have several serving pieces with this collection but alas, no teapot.

Here's a rose for you all. Thanks for stopping by. Love to hear from you. Drop me a line.

  4. Shirley, that table could define the phrase "pretty in pink." It is just as pretty as can be! And I loved hearing about all of the pieces that belonged to your family and who they belonged to... that is SO special.

I'm a big fan of limoge, and yours is even more special because of the family connection. They obviously left it to the right family member who appreciates not only the quality of the pieces but the sentimental attachment as well. And I love your mother's sherberts, too. You new piece and your Haviland piece complete the look. Perfect!

    Happy Tablescape Thursday...

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  5. The whole table is perfection but I especially like the sherbet glasses. I always like the dishes that people have inherited the best. They always seem special.

  15. This is by far the prettiest tablescape I have ever seen. The china is so very lovely. I have two tea cup and saucer sets that are Limoges and they are delicate and beautiful. The pink tablcloth is the only color to use with these. I love the pink sherbert glasses. I have been on the lookout for affordable stemmed water goblets in that pink. I'm so sorry that you lost a cup, but you still have a wonderful collection, made all the more special because it is a family heirloom.

  24. Hey Shirley: Thank you for stopping by my blog and commenting on my drop cloth drapes. You asked how I got the idea for them....the only thing I can say is that I didn't want them "plain Jane" so I decided to finish them off with the wide black border at the bottom to go along with my seagrass rug. In a post last year (not sure when) I featured a shower curtain I made like one I saw in the Ballards catalog where I sewed a wide brown border (again using a sheet) to the bottom of a white shower curtain in my hubby's bathroom. Ballard's shower curtain was around $56 and mine was less than $25!

By the way, you table setting is stunning!
