Finished Dining Room!

Hi all. I'm happy to announce that my dining room is finished. My contractor has left the building and I'm taking a break from renovations for awhile!! I am completely delighted with both my kitchen and my dining room. They are exactly what I wanted.
I'm joining a couple different parties for this huge occasion! I'm joining Cindy at My Romantic Home for "Show and Tell Friday".

I'm also joining "Transformation Thursday" at The Shabby Chic Cottage: http://www.theshabbychiccottage.net/
and
"Metamorphosis Monday" at Between Naps on the Porch:

The dining room took about 2 1/2 weeks from tear out to finished! I'm so glad I had the dining room done too. I mean you can't have a spectacular kitchen then have your guests go into a unattractive dining room. And mine was sure that!! Old paneling, old drop tile ceiling that hung down and NO WOODWORK!! You can go back in the archives under "dining room" and see the process. My light is still tied up till I get a table so I don't keep bumping my head on it!
I think the room looks very colonial now!

I was going to do the room red (above the wainscoting) until a few days before painting time. Then I decided that red looked too formal and I would be too limited with that color.

I will have some black furniture to go in here and I love black with this wall color.

See . . . one of my favorite pictures goes perfectly in here!

I don't know yet what furniture or where I will place it. I still don't have my dining room table. I am now going to seriously look for one in the next 2 weeks!

The china cupboard and carpet I'm not so sure about but they will have to do for now. Who knows, it may all fit in. It will all depend on the style of table I find.
I'm so happy this is all done.
Ray Klimko from Cottage Cabinets did both of my rooms. He did exactly as I wanted, he's very particular with his work and it is a pleasure to know him. I recommend him HIGHLY!!
If you're in the NE Ohio area and want his numbers, just email me. He does it all.

  2. I wish I lived nearby so we could hire him. Looks like a real pro.
Black is a great choice for the furniture and I agree red would have really limited your decorating choices.

I think your china cabinet would look great painted black! Against the wall and the wainscoting.

  8. I'm so impressed, what a lovely finish and in record time!
Black will be such a good choice for your furniture, so classy - I'm certain it will look fantastic when you have completed the furnishings. I look forward to seeing your photo's when the dining room is completed.

  10. Hi Shirley,

I would like to encourage you to paint your china cabinet black. Just prime it with kilz primer first, then a nice satin black. It will absolutely transform it. Also, your little chest - if you paint it black and add vintage glass knobs you will be astounded at the transformation!

    Blessings,
    Trish

P.S. I'm a retired Interior Decorator. You're on the right track - keep it up and good luck!

  11. Oh, I noticed that your area rug might have a navy blue background. Wal-Mart and Target have great area rugs at nominal prices. Black backgrounds are very popular and easy to find.

    Again....blessings!
