First Fire

Fireplace Season

Today I made my first fire of the year. It is cool outside and will be getting cold at night now.
I haven't made a fire in the past couple years. I don't know why. I should've last winter as it was super cold for many days. Oh, I know why . . . My kitchen was being re-done!
I wanted to test my fire-making and be sure the smoke went up the chimney like it's supposed to!!
I dusted the cobwebs out, loaded some nice dry wood and a firestarter and made sure the flue was open! It started with no problem and no smoke. Now I'm ready for cold nights and a beautiful fire for Thanksgiving.

  1. What a beautiful fire place!
    Looks so comfy and inviting!
My dad could lay stone like that in his day. He had a stone chimney he did at one house that was so cool.
    Enjoy your cooler nights!

  2. We had our first fire today too--the kids were coming to the door for trick or treat and we needed the warmth. We had to shut down an hour early this year because we had given over 350 pieces of candy out and there would have been an hour more BUT no candy!

  3. We worked outside all day picking up downed tree branches and twigs from the high winds earlier in the week, and picking up (hopefully) the last of the leaves. After cutting firewood and having sloppy joes, a roaring fire and a good movie were just what the doctor ordered.

  7. Love the fall decorations on your mantle. I am visiting you via the Tablescaper. We had our first fire the other night for a dinner party that I titled (The boys are back in town) on my blog Currently Chic. Hope you will stop by my blog too!

  8. There is something magical about the first fire of the season. This week I think I'm going to clean out the fireplace and start stacking one. Then on the next cold night it will be ready for lighting. Hmmmm, maybe I should get a bag of marshammalows as well.
