A Very Stressful Couple Days

Satire and Michele

Satire is in an Equine Specialty Hospital recovering from major abdominal surgery last night about 4 AM. He had coliced a couple days before then yesterday it got extremely bad. It was the third time the vet was out but this time was different. He was in extreme pain. We got a hauler and had him taken to the hospital. We got there about 1:30 AM I think (it's all a blur) and he was in surgery by 4 AM. He had a twisted large intestine. He is 31 years old. (That's over 100 years in people time!) He came through the surgery extremely well. The twist had damaged some blood vessels but had not compromised the intestine yet. So the next 48 hours are critical to his recovery. (Because of clots) After the surgery his chances were 50/50. They say after 48 hours and he is doing well, that his chances will get much better.
So I'm asking all of you out there to please offer up a prayer for Satire's complete recovery. He is a very special horse and owns my daughter's heart.

  1. Shirley, sorry about your daughter's horse, I hope he has a speedy recovery! He looks like you have taken very good care of him, never would have guessed him for 31. . .Suzie

  2. I am so sorry to hear this, but glad he made it through the surgery. I will keep them in my prayers.

  3. Shirley, you and Satire have my sincere thoughts and good wishes for a complete recovery winging their way across the pond.
    Big hugs!
    Rose H

  4. Shirley,

I hope Satire makes a speedy and complete recovery. La

  5. Well if love can help him through it I am sure he will be fine. What a beauty he is.

  6. You are all in my prayers. I have known first hand the type of stress you are going through. What I love most about your blog is your love and dedication to your four-legged family.

Best wishes and healing vibes for your beautiful Satire. What a perfect picture -- you can just feel the connection between he and Michele.

  7. Oh, I'm sorry. I hope Satire recovers well. 31! He doesn't look a day over 12. He must be a very special horse indeed.

  8. Thank you all for your prayers. He is doing well and he's almost to the 40 hour mark.
