Around my Yard - Trees and Wind

Thanks Susan for hosting our "party". Be sure to visit Susan at A Southern Daydreamer and see everyone's outdoor shots. http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com/

Here's one of my little red squirrels eating at my bird feeder! They are in all my trees and I'm sure in my attic!

I've lost two big pine trees to wind in this past year.
This happened in the Spring and during the night. I never heard a thing. It bent the gutter but it could've been much worse! It was laying against my satellite line but it never disturbed it. YEAH!! It took about half a day for 4 guys to get the whole thing down. The year we moved into this house a tornado came across the golf course and took out a tree about 3 feet from the house and another huge maple tree in the middle of the front yard. It never touched our house. I do feel blessed here.

This happened last fall. It's strange that this one fell to the right because the prevailing winds usually come from the opposite way. The wind really picks up speed across the golf course and then it hits my little square acre!
Have a nice Wednesday everyone. I'll be babysitting!

  4. I find myself leaving our bedroom in the middle of any storm as there are many tall trees just outside our window.

I am glad your home was not damaged too badly.

  9. You are like a cat with nine lives :-). I'm always amazed by the shallow root systems of most conifers. It doesn't take much wind to take them down. I'm glad you've suffered no serious damage. I hope you are having a wonderful day.

  11. Thank the Lord you have been kept safe! I am not a fan of heavy winds, "straight winds" come through Winnipeg occasionally and take down trees in it's path. Scary!!! I love breezes, they are my friends. Hugs, Cindy S.
